Review

The North Fork Rancheria of Mono Indians plan to build a 200-room multi-story resort hotel and casino near Madera, California. The proposed site for the project is a 305-acre parcel in an an unincorporated area between Madera and Chowchilla.
However, construction of the resort casino has not yet begun due to pending legal issues.
In the latest news in the long-standing legal battle, in December 2016,the 5th District Court of Appeals in Fresno ruled against Gov. Jerry Brown when he sided with a 2012 Department of Interior decision that put the 305 acres into trust for the tribe. Onegroup opposed to the casino project,Stand Up for California, contends that the decision to allow the tribe to operate off-reservation is beyond the scope of the governor`s office and is challenging the decision.
For now, there are several lawsuits aimed at stopping construction that are still pending, including that of thePicayune Rancheria of Chukchansi Indians, which owns and operates the Chukchansi Gold Resort and Casino located some 36 miles away near the town of Coarsegold.
The tribe has no construction timeline, however, it may be considering several construction phases during the legal processing. The tribe may begin ground preparations and a smaller casino until such time as the legal status allows for full-scale construction.
The North Fork Rancheria began pursuing the project back in 2003 when they signed a development and management agreement with Station Casinos, who is set to oversee construction and manage casino operations.
Past reports indicate the tribe plans to build a 200-room multi-story resort hotel with pool, spa, retail space, and meeting & event space and a 68,000 square foot (approx.) casino offering a max of 2,000 slots and 40 gaming tables, with a buffet, restaurant, steakhouse, coffee shop, food court, and a handful of bars.
