Legal and regulated sports betting is now live in New Jersey! The first online sportsbook to launch in NJ was DraftKings and the market continues to grow.
In 2018, the West Virginia legislature legalized sports betting for both live, in-person and online betting. Then in 2019, the legislature expanded online gambling in West Virginia to include online casino gambling. Currently, there are three active retails sportsbooks and two sports betting apps in West Virginia.
Here is a rundown of all 13 NJ online sports betting apps available, as well as 10 retail sportsbooks in NJ, so you know exactly where to find all the AC sports betting action in NJ!

Best NJ betting Sites
1. DraftKings Sportsbook
DraftKings was the very first online sportsbook to debut in New Jersey. In many ways, being first to market allowed the company to set the pace for online sports betting.
Naturally, DraftKings carried its black and green colors and logo forward into the app. However, using Kambi-powered software, the DFS titan crafted a mobile-optimized experience for users.
DraftKings offers a great deal of variety and flexibility in the app. Almost every type of bet imaginable is available, and bettors can wager as little as 10 cents in a single bet.
DraftKings also gives players the ability to book their wins and guard against last-second defeats. The live ticket system allows bettors to cash out open tickets before the game ends.
This ability comes at a price — the cashout amount adjusts based upon the status of gameplay but is never as high as the winning payout. However, bettors who don’t feel confident about their bets can get some return they otherwise wouldn’t. Even parlay players can cash out early.
2. BetStars NJ
The eighth online sportsbook to enter the NJ sports betting market was BetStars. It followed 888 Sport a few days later via its partnership with Resorts AC. The sports betting arm of The Stars Group has a BetStars app available on both Android and iOS.
For the most part, BetStars with its international clout and experience functions as any sportsbook app should and has few innovations other than the usual. However, what it lacks in quality, it makes up for in quantity and that is to say, it showcases several promotions geared toward sports betting enthusiasts.
3. FanDuel
FanDuel Sportsbook will likely never escape comparisons to its DFS archrival, DraftKings. While FanDuel seemed to have the early upper hand, DraftKings managed to be first to market with its online sportsbook.
Now, FanDuel is in the game. Its online offering, powered by partnerships with Paddy Power Betfair and IGT, is a slick and polished product that is built to compete.
The app features a betting carousel and tons of flexibility. FanDuel will accept wagers as low as 10 cents on the site.
That flexibility plays into the company’s ethos as a landing spot for the casual bettor. Sharps will likely seek out looser lines elsewhere.
4. William Hill
William Hill moves with the ease of a company that knows its business. Unlike some of the other competitors in the market, William Hill is no stranger to online betting, sports betting, or the United States.
As a result, its app release in New Jersey was an understated affair. The company appears content to port its Nevada product into the Garden State.
The William Hill NJ app is available via browser as well as on Android and iOS (as of Sept. 26).
5. PointsBet
In a somewhat surprising development, PointsBet is set to become the ninth online sportsbook in New Jersey. The Australian company received its approval from the New Jersey Department of Gaming Enforcement on Dec. 11.
PointsBet will solely operate online and will use the Meadowlands license. There will be no retail version of the site.
Among its products, PointsBet’s signature product is a unique twist on sports betting called spread betting. Instead of a set amount of win or loss on a bet, players’ fortunes depend on the degree to which they’re correct.
So, for instance, if the over/under on a game is 70 points, then the payouts or losses derive from the distance that the actual total is from 70. So, if the teams combine for 80 points, the player wins more than if they combine for 75. Conversely, the player loses more if they only manage 60 points versus 65 points.
Needless to say, there is a risky quality to this type of sports betting. However, the wins can also be outsized compared to traditional wagering options.
6. Caesars
Caesars became the sixth online sportsbook in New Jersey on Sept. 6. The app is available for both iOS (via the Apple Store) and Android users (through the Caesars Casino website).
Much like SugarHouse, Caesars has integrated its sportsbook with its other online offerings. Login and wallet details should remain the same for players with an existing account.
Scientific Games will power the app for Caesars. The two companies struck a partnership earlier this summer.
As a result, the Caesars app has a decent degree of functionality. Aesthetically, there are slicker products available, but it looks to get the job done.
However, Caesars does not have in-game betting or some of the other innovative products at this time.
7. SugarHouse Sportsbook
PlayMGM got to enjoy its singular competition for less than 24 hours. On the morning of Aug. 23, SugarHouse went live with its online sportsbook.
The sportsbook is the first of the three options to integrate fully with the existing online casino. Players can simply choose the appropriate tab on playsugarhouse.com to wager on their favorite teams.
The integration extends beyond simple betting flexibility, however. Players can use the same wallet to flip back and forth between the different functions without having to reload or transfer funds.
Sports Betting Sites
Players also earn rewards that pool into the same repository. The software works perfectly and intuitively on a browser and mobile presentations. The site even offers the same live ticket concept as DraftKings.
So, it seems that waiting a few weeks may have been beneficial for SugarHouse to work out the kinks.
8. 888 Sport
888 Sport went live as the seventh online sportsbook in New Jersey on Sept. 10. 888 has loads of experience overseas and its app reflects that seasoning.
The 888 Sport app offers different areas of focus for New Jersey players. One of its main components is exceptionally granular in-game betting.
Players can wager on the minutiae of individual sporting events with ease. Individual points and outcomes of single plays are available for betting.
As a result, a player could wager hundreds of times on a single contest. Perhaps this granularity is the reason that the site promotes its gamecast feature.
Gamecast allows players to monitor an event’s progress without actually observing it. The detailed visualization of the action yields the same or more data than a player’s eyes can track.
That said, some of the other features on the site are not terribly competitive yet. The site’s lines and pricing are higher than most other Garden State options.
9. PlayMGM
DraftKings Sportsbook operated without competition for about three weeks in New Jersey. Then, on Aug. 22, playMGMdebuted its app to the public.
The release came three weeks after MGM CEO Jim Murren said it would occur. However, the release still feels a bit unsure.
For one thing, playMGM was available to Android users for almost two months. On Oct. 20 it finally launched its iOS app for Apple users.
There is also not much integration right now. In fact, sources indicate that the Nevada version of their sportsbook will use different odds than the New Jersey book.
However, for players with loyalty to MGM or Borgata, the release is likely a welcome relief from DraftKings’s de facto monopoly.
10. Hard Rock
Hard Rock Online Sportsbook is finally here. That’s right, NJ online sports betting is now live.
Although now they are officially open for business, their journey began with a small bluff. On Friday, January 20, 2019, Gaming Innovation Group (GiG) announced the launch of the new Hard Rock NJ online sportsbook.
The announcement was a bit premature, and GiG ended up taking down the press release later that day.
Hard Rock also officially entered the onsite sports betting arena with the recent opening of a brand new sportsbook inside the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Atlantic City.
Both the land-based and online Sportsbooks, as well as Hard Rock’s online casino, are all powered by Gaming Innovation Group. With the integration of all three, customers can take advantage of the partnerships with an opportunity to enjoy a shared wallet for both platforms.
11. Resorts
Resorts Casino in Atlantic City announced the launch of their new Resorts-branded online sports betting platform.
Powered by SBTech, the new Resorts Sportsbook is available on any device and offers a nice variety of betting options, including live odds, parlays, teasers, singles and more.
This is nothing new for Resorts Digital Gaming LLC officials, as they previously partnered with DraftKings and BetStars NJ from the Stars Group platforms.
Since this NJ online sports betting site is Resorts-branded, they have also integrated its newest offerings into the existing Resorts NJ online casino. This means customers will have access to a shared wallet for online casino games and sports betting.
12. BetAmerica
BetAmerica is yet another online gambling brand who announced its NJ sportsbook launch.
Powered by SBTech, BetAmerica Sportsbook is ready to take on the long list of NJ sports betting sites.
BetAmerica joins the already crowded online sports gambling industry with a solid foundation of wagering options, including in-game betting, straight bets, futures bets, exciting prop bets and parlays.
13. BorgataSports
On Tuesday, May 14, 2019, Borgata Hotel Casino & Spa, in partnership with GVC Holdings, finally launched its own online and mobile platform for sports betting, BorgataSports. In so doing, the Borgata digital platform became the 14th online/mobile sports betting option in New Jersey.
The new digital platform offers Borgata customers a viable alternative to go along with the casino-based Borgata Race & Sports Book in Atlantic City
14. Golden Nugget
On Saturday, February 19, the Golden Nugget online sportsbookofficially opened, thereby becoming the 13th such sportsbook in New Jersey.
Now that GoldenNuggetCasino.com takes not just casino games bets, but also sports bets, you can take advantage of the site’s single wallet system to make both types of bets using the same account.
15. theScore Sportsbook
On August 16, 2019 theScore Bet NJ sportsbook app sent out a press release announcing that the New Jersey Division of Gaming Enforcement had granted initial approval for a soft launch, allowing internet and mobile sports wagering activities.
A select list of New Jersey gambling players were emailed earlier this month about the soft-launch period with an“exclusive early access” option, just in time for the 2019 NFL football season.
TheScore joins William Hill NJand PlaySugarHouse as the newestmobile online skin under the Monmouth Park license.
The NJ online sports betting site is expected to include both an Android and iOS app options.
Is Online Sports Betting Legal in NJ?
YES! NJ online sportsbooks and AC sports betting is legal.
On Monday, May 14 2018, New Jersey won a landmark ruling from the Supreme Court in favor of legalizing real money sports gambling in AC and online anywhere in NJ, on college and professional sports. Now, legal sportsbooks exist at NJ casinos and race tracks, as well as online with sports betting sites and mobile apps.
The law that was passed by Congress a quarter century ago, forcing states to keep sports gambling bans on the books, was deemed unconstitutional by the justices in a 6-3 voting decision.
It was also a nice victory for NJ’s former governor, Chris Christie, who worked hard throughout his term challenging the PASPA (Professional and Amateur Sports Protection Act).
His main goal was to “fight for the rights of the people NJ,” and to help strengthen the future success of NJ casinos and racetracks on-site.
New Jersey is the reason sports betting is spreading across the US. After the US Supreme Court struck down the federal ban in NJ, other states started fighting for the legalization of sports betting.
As of today, these nine states have legal, state-regulated sports betting industries:
- Nevada
- Delaware
- New Jersey
- Mississippi
- West Virginia
- Pennsylvania
- Rhode Island
- Arkansas
- New Mexico
With even more on the way. In fact… Illinois, Tennessee, Montana, Iowa, Indiana, and New Hampshire will all legalize sports betting in the near future, pending an official.
Other pending states:
- New York: Physical sportsbooks at upstate casinos as part of existing law
- Oregon: Lottery already has authority to roll out new types of gaming, such as sports betting
Justice Samuel Alito, a New Jersey native, wrote the court’s opinion in the case.
“Congress can regulate sports gambling directly, but if it elects not to do so, each state is free to act on its own,” Alito said.
“Our job is to interpret the law Congress has enacted and decide whether it is consistent with the Constitution.”

New Jersey Racetracks and Sportsbooks
Monmouth Park Racetrack
Monmouth Park’s sportsbook is located in a former cafeteria onsite. The area underwent a $3 million renovation to its current format in 2013, thanks to a remarkable bit of foresight from European sports betting giant William Hill.
The sportsbook features several teller stations, a large odds display wall, high-definition televisions at every angle, and lounge seating for patrons. Players may also bet at Monmouth’s sports bar, located on the grandstand level.
The hours of operation for the Monmouth Park Sportsbook by William Hill are:
- Monday – Thursday: 10am to 1am
- Friday: 10am to 2am
- Saturday: 8am to 2am
- Sunday: 8am to 1am
Minimum bet: $2
Resorts Casino Online Sports Betting
Meadowlands Racetrack
No sportsbook has ever benefited from its geographical location more than the FanDuel Sportsbook at Meadowlands Racetrack. The book’s location across the parking lot from MetLife Stadium (home of the NFL’s Jets and Giants) and a scant six miles from sportsbook-less New York City neatly explains why this facility is on top of New Jersey’s land-based sports betting market.
Betting occurs in the FanDuel Sportsbook inside Victory Sports Bar. The area has multiple giant high-definition televisions along two walls. Several betting stations line an entire long wall of the facility, and a long marble bar serves beverages and food along the opposite wall.
The hours of operation for the FanDuel Sportsbook at Meadowlands Racetrack are:
Minimum bet: $2
Atlantic City Sports Betting
Borgata
Fun fact: Borgata opened on the same day as Monmouth Park. The large Atlantic City casino began accepting wagers in its converted Racebook a few hours after Gov. Phil Murphy placed the ceremonial first bet at the northern New Jersey racetrack.
Borgata didn’t open its permanent facility until June 2019. The Moneyline Bar & Book is a different take on sports betting, to be sure.
It’s more like a sports bar that has sports betting, rather than the other way around. There’s no stadium seating, and it’s a place to get a drink, THEN place a bet.
The hours of operation for the Moneyline Bar & Book are:
Monday – Sunday: 10AM – 12AM
Minimum bet: $5
Ocean Resort Casino
The sportsbook at Ocean Resort Casino has always been a centerpiece of the new casino. Former owner Bruce Deifik spent $6 million to create a 7,500-square foot facility in the very middle of everything.
The William Hill Sportsbook features towering high-definition televisions and odds display boards. Banks of lounge chairs and barstools adorn the huge area, which rivals sportsbooks at most Las Vegas casinos.
Accordingly, the William Hill Sportsbook is the first in Atlantic City to offer Vegas-style hours. Its hours of operation are:
Open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week
Minimum bet: $2
Hard Rock Hotel & Casino Atlantic City
Hard Rock opened its Atlantic City location in the former Trump Taj Mahal in July 2018. Since then, the casino has become one of the most-visited in America’s Playground, running second only to Borgata.
However, the rock-themed casino took some time to bring forth its complete sports betting vision. Hard Rock only opened the permanent venue for sports betting in March 2019.
It seems worth the wait. The new sportsbook has 60 televisions, seating for 50, and a full-service bar with video poker.
While it seems unlikely that sports betting is the main reason that patrons are visiting Hard Rock, there’s no denying that the 3,800 square foot sportsbook is a big plus for the new casino. Its hours of operation are:
Open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week
Minimum bet: $5
Resorts Casino Hotel
Resorts surprised most people when it partnered with DraftKings to run its sports betting. After all, DraftKings had been primarily a daily fantasy sports operator, and had only run a retail sportsbook on a small scale in Mississippi.
The move has turned out to be a shrewd one, particularly with regard to the online space. Nevertheless, the unassuming Resorts Casino Hotel is home to a very sleek and stylish sportsbook.
The new sportsbook has 18 betting kiosks and 5 betting windows. The video walls that are all over the 5,000 square-feet facility are all ultra high-definition devices.
The DraftKings Sportsbook at Resorts also features a full-service bar with bottle service. Its hours of operation are:
Monday – Sunday: 10 a.m. – 1:30 a.m. In addition, betting kiosks are open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
Minimum bet: $2
Golden Nugget Atlantic City
The fact that Golden Nugget Atlantic City has a sportsbook is a minor miracle. For a time, it was unclear if the New Jersey Department of Gaming Enforcement (DGE) was going to allow the Marina-area resort to offer sports betting, due to the fact that owner Tilman Fertitta also owns the NBA’s Houston Rockets.
The DGE, concerned about potential conflicts of interest, finally settled upon a compromise to allow sports betting to take place EXCEPT for basketball games. With that, construction was soon underway on a new facility off the atrium.
The Sportsbook at Golden Nugget Atlantic City now offers seating for 100 people, more than 50 televisions, and 5 video walls. The facility also features numerous betting kiosks.
Its hours of operation are:
- Monday – Friday: 12pm – 8pm
- Saturday – Sunday: 10am – 10pm
Minimum bet: $5
Bally’s Atlantic City
Few casino sportsbooks aspire to be a place to hangout quite like The Book at Bally’s Atlantic City. The sportsbook is a whopping 15,228 square feet of space, and there’s plenty to do beyond simply staring at an odds display.
For one thing, patrons can rent one of five Fan Caves. These private rooms can hold up to 24 people, and have high-definition televisions that can split into three different screens. They also feature game consoles and foosball tables, along with food and beverage service.
The Book itself has seating for 102 people in its own right. There are 30 VIP seats and an expansive video poker bar. Its hours of operation are:
- Monday – Thursday: 11am to 11:30pm
- Friday: 11am to 12am
- Saturday: 10am to 12am
- Sunday: 10am to 11:30pm
Minimum bet: $5
Harrah’s Atlantic City
Harrah’s Atlantic City’s sportsbook is, in many ways, the younger sibling of the sportsbook at its sister site, Bally’s. The Book at Harrah’s is a well-appointed space that looks comfortable and sleek, if a bit on the movie theatre side of things when it comes to design.
The sportsbook spreads across a respectable 3,800 square feet and features numerous video walls. The chairs are extra plush, and food service is available from AC Burger Company.
Its hours of operation are:
- Monday – Thursday: 11 a.m. – 11:30 p.m.
- Friday: 11 a.m. – midnight
- Saturday: 10 a.m. – midnight
- Sunday: 10 a.m. – 11:30 p.m.
Minimum bet: $2
Tropicana Casino and Resort
Tropicana managed to snag a big name when it partnered with international sports betting giant William Hill. The William Hill Sportsbook at Tropicana features 5,000 square feet of space – an area that rivals most of the largest books in New Jersey.
The key feature of the book is its 1600+ square feet of video displays. The video screens total 200 linear feet of display area, and allow patrons to watch up to 16 contests at once.
There are also several different types of seating available. Patrons can relax in lounge seating, sprawl in couches, or stay active with bar seating. Up to 180 players can fit comfortably inside the William Hill Sportsbook at Tropicana.
Its hours of operation are:
- Monday -Thursday: 10 a.m. – midnight
- Friday: 10 a.m. – 1 a.m.
- Saturday: 9 a.m. – 1 a.m.
- Sunday: 9 a.m. – midnight
Also, the kiosks are open daily, from 9 a.m. to 2 a.m.
Minimum bet: $2
FAQ on the NJ sports betting law
Who can place a bet and what sports can be bet on?
Gamblers in New Jersey must be 21 or older in order to make a bet anywhere in the state.
The bill also includes language preventing athletes, coaches, referees, and any other persons with potential influence or access to non-public information regarding sporting events, from making bets on games overseen by the league in which they participate.
Additionally, New Jersey sportsbooks are prohibited from taking bets on high school sports or collegiate athletics taking place in the state or involving New Jersey teams.
What if a casino owns a team franchise?
Clauses were also included in the new law to allow MGM, Caesars, and Golden Nugget properties to open sportsbooks, despite each having some ownership stake in a professional sports team.
The bill prohibits casino operators who own a stake of 10 percent or more in a sports franchise from offering sports betting. For example, since Apollo Capital Management, a private equity firm co-founded by Philadelphia 76ers and New Jersey Devils owner Joshua Harris, owns less than 10 percent of Caesars Entertainment, its Atlantic City casino properties have been authorized to open sportsbooks.
Casino operators also qualify for a waiver to this provision if the sports franchise is worth less than one percent of the operator’s total business.
Borgata Hotel Casino & Spa owner MGM Resorts owns the WNBA’s Las Vegas Aces. However, it qualifies for this waiver because the franchise is worth less than one percent of MGM. MGM reported $10.8 billion in net revenue in 2017.
Finally, a last-minute change also allows the Golden Nugget to move forward with a sportsbook on one condition. Owner Tilman Fertitta bought the NBA’s Houston Rockets for $2.2 billion in 2017. Parent company Landry’s had revenues of approximately $3.4 billion in 2017, leaving Golden Nugget unfit for both waivers.
The last-minute change will allow Golden Nugget to offer bets on all sports exceptNBA basketball. It is clear to take bets on college basketball.
What are the tax rates for sports betting?
The law sets the tax rate for racetrack sportsbook operations at 8.5 percent. Plus, an additional 1.25 percent payment to be split among each track’s host community and county where it operates.
Casinos will also be forced to pay an 8.5 percent tax on sportsbook revenues. Plus, an additional 1.25 percent payment. The difference being the additional 1.25 percent payment for casinos will go to help market Atlantic City.
Finally, the bill authorizes online sports betting out of licensed casinos and racetracks, beginning 30 days after it becomes a law. The bill sets the tax rate for online sportsbook operations at 13 percent.
Who oversees the NJ sports betting market?
The new law authorizes the state’s Division of Gaming Enforcement and New Jersey Racing Commission to issue emergency regulations to govern sports betting in the state. These regulations are in effect for a period of up to 270 days and allow licensed casinos and racetracks to apply for what’s called a transactional waiver.
The waiver allows these organizations to commence sports betting operations immediately.
Is there sports betting in Atlantic City?
Yes. On Monday, May 14 2018, New Jersey won the ruling in favor of legalizing real money sports gambling in AC and online anywhere in NJ, on college and professional sports. Now, legal sportsbooks exist at all AC casinos and race tracks, as well as online with sports betting sites and mobile apps.
Where can you place sports bets in Atlantic City?
Where can I sports bet in AC?
